Redding, CA
    Originally populated by native Americans of the Wintu tribe as early as the year 1000,
Redding California is situated along the ancient travel route known as the Siskiyou trail
which connects the Pacific Northwest to California's Central Valley. Early accounts document
members of the United States Exploring Expedition & Hudson's Bay Company Trappers
passing through the area while traveling the Siskiyou Trail.

    Originally dubbed "Poverty Flats" it early years were by no means prosperous. Later the
name was changed to "Redding" in honor of Benjamin B. Redding an early railroad man of
the area, only later in 1874 to be renamed Reading in honor of the earliest known settler
"Pierson Reading" who recieved the land from a Grant from the mexican government in 1844.
The name was once again changed back to "Redding" in 1880 when the railroad refused to
accept the name.

    Today Redding can be located along Interstate 5 just south of Lake Shasta. The area
located along the Sacramento River is rich in wildlife and is the home of a number of
endangered species. The area is a popular home base for persons wanting to explore nearby
attractions such as Lassen Volcanic National Park and Lake Shasta, with numerous
RV parks and Campgrounds providing facilities and accomodations for travelers and explorers.
